We personally tested and researched the top bath linens made using organic and natural materials — these are our top ten favorites for a range of budgets.

What’s better than coming out of the shower feeling squeaky clean and wrapping yourself up in a warm bath towel? Few things feel as luxurious or relaxing — especially when you snuggle up in a towel made from organic and natural materials.

The whole setup makes showering feel like a chore, even though it’s a crucial practice for maintaining my mental (and physical) health. So to find the very best of the best in 2025, I’ve reviewed organic and all-natural towels from our favorite brands to see which ones meet my standards for quality, sustainability, and affordability.

Below, you’ll find my top ten favorite bath towels and bath sheets, all made using natural and pesticide-free materials and produced in fair labor environments. There’s a wide range of pricing, but know this: You can’t go wrong with any of these bath linens. (For extra luxury, upgrade to a bath sheet — I’ve never tried one before now, and am absolutely smitten).

But do you know what your towels are made from? I’ve had my current towels for over a decade and the tags have long since faded or been cut off. My unmatching washcloths are just as old, and are in even worse shape — they’re hardly square anymore thanks to shrinking, and the edges are tattered and frayed.

My old towels for reference!

For me, I’ll eventually retire my old towels and use them for cleaning or share them with my pets (maybe even donate to an animal shelter). But from here on out, I’m sold on plush towels for my self-care shower routine, especially since they’ll last me another ten years — or more.

Our methodology & criteria:

Our editors have personally tested and researched dozens of home brands to find the best soft, organic, and high quality bathroom towels and bath sheets. We update this list regularly with emerging favorites that meet the below criteria and considerations.

  • NATURAL AND ORGANIC MATERIALS | I look for certified organic cotton whenever possible, but also look to certifications like GOTS, OEKO TEX, Fair Trade, and B Corp status to further indicate a brand’s values.
  • RANGE OF PRICES | I specifically looked for organic and natural towels that ranged from budget-friendly to more luxurious, depending on your needs (psst — add nice towels to your wedding registry!)
  • STYLES AVAILABLE | Some days I want super plush bath linens, and others I want something quick-drying and easy to care for. These brands offer a range of sizes, textures, and absorbencies.

If you’re on the market for more sustainable home goods, you won’t want to miss our roundups of the best sustainable bedding brands, organic comforters and duvet inserts, and sustainable sheet sets. Don’t forget to top off your bathing experience with these organic body washes and organic shampoo brands. Scrub-a-dub. 🛁

1. Under The Canopy

Best For | Affordable organic towels
Materials | 100% GOTS Certified organic cotton
Sustainability | Made in environmentally certified factories in India and Bahrain, ethical production practices
Standard Towel Price | $18 – $28

If you’re looking for a beautiful towel for an affordable price, Under The Canopy is the way to go. I tested the blush plush organic towel, which looks nice and plush when folded and hanging; it’d be an excellent choice for a luxurious guest bathroom without spending so gosh darn much on towels. Crafted from GOTS-certified organic cotton, these towels are dyed using vibrant, nontoxic dyes, so they’re safe for both your skin and the environment. The brand is also committed to ethical production through their cruelty-free and vegan manufacturing processes, which is a win in my book.

The weights on these towels range from 579 GSM to 650 GSM, and the brand mentions these towels are bloom and soften with each wash, enhancing their absorbency and plushness the longer you use them. While I didn’t find these towels to be the softest option on the list — I do agree that they’ll get softer with time and washing. I also found this towel strikes a balance between being lightweight and ultra-absorbent, making it quick to dry and perfect for daily use. Spring for the bath sheets too, if you have the space!

You can save 10% more by bundling, making Under The Canopy the most affordable option on this list.

2. Avocado

Best For | Luxurious bath sheets
Materials | 100% GOTS Certified organic cotton
Sustainability | MADE SAFE® certified, Climate Neutral Certified
Standard Towel Price | $129

I wrapped myself in Avocado’s organic cotton bath sheets after a shower on a particularly cold day, and almost didn’t want to get dressed. It was that comfortable, and very, very large. The ribbed texture on the bath sheet not only adds an elegant look and feel, but also enhances its quick-drying capabilities, making it both functional and stylish. If you prefer towels over bath sheets, Avocado’s towels boast a substantial 700 GSM weight, providing that plush, spa-like feel we all dream of, while still remaining breathable and absorbent. Moreover, both Avocado’s bath towels and sheets are MADE SAFE® certified, meaning they are free from harmful chemicals and safe for both humans and the environment.

The only reason these towels didn’t make my number one pick was the price. Avocado’s prices reflect the longevity, quality, and sustainability of the products, but spending triple digits on a bath sheet ($129 to be precise) may be difficult to justify for most folks. But, oh, the absolute delight it was to wrap myself in one of these luxuriously soft and warm bath sheets!

Add these Avocado towels to a wedding registry or request as a gift, you won’t be disappointed.

3. Piglet in Bed

Best For | Thick & plush bath towels
Materials | 100% organic & OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified cotton
Sustainability | Ethically made in Portugal & Turkey, ethically sourced cotton in partnership with the Better Cotton Initiative
Standard Towel Price | $49

If ever I were to spend the whole day wrapped in nothing but a bath towel (dream day, anyone?), my first choice would be Piglet in Bed. These towels and washcloths are thick with a smooth, almost-satiny texture, and wash up like a dream (they’re still as soft as they were on day one). Woven in Turkey and Portugal from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, these towels are crafted OEKO-TEX facilities, ensuring they’re free from harmful chemicals and manufactured under fair working conditions. When it comes to weight, these towels are an impressive 700 GSM weight (I did say thick and plush!), yet are still breathable and quick-drying. The zero-twist yarn construction enhances the towel’s softness but also makes it more durable, so you’ll still be left with a fluffy towel wash after wash.

I especially love keeping these bath sheets on hand for houseguests — they upgrade my apartment bathroom to quite the luxurious, welcoming space, and the mushroom color I tested is easy to hide random makeup stains. Note that not all the towels are certified organic, although they are all made using sustainable, ethically sourced materials. (I’ve got my eye on the brand’s linen bed sheets next, just look at the gingham 😍).

4. Homebird

Best For | Quick-drying mid-weight towels
Materials | 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton
Sustainability | Made in Fairtrade certified factories, grown without pesticides, sustainable & transparent practices
Standard Towel Price | $57 – $67

As a brand dedicated to both luxurious and sustainable materials, Homebird has been making a splash in the home linens space since 2021. I tested the classic bath sheet set in navy and white, which I’ve found to be a minimalist’s dream. Not only is the towel a perfect mid-weight so it dries quickly, but I also love the simple touch of the piped edges which elevates the whole look. The discreet hanging loop is also a much-appreciated feature, making it super easy to dry and store the towel.

I found the 600 GSM weight for their classic bath sheet a great balance balance between plushness and practicality, making these towels a great option if you’re looking for both comfort and efficiency. The towels are made using “long-staple” organic cotton, which means they’ll be sturdier and softer in the long run — and I have to say, it’s a quality you can definitely feel. It’s also nice to see the Fairtrade logo on the tags for these towels, a good reminder about who makes the items we use daily (and in what labor conditions) matters.

You can save around 10% when you opt for the six-piece bundle!

5. Ettitude

Best For | Small spaces
Materials | 100% bamboo Lyocell
Sustainability | Bamboo sourced from FSC-certified sustainable forests, hypoallergenic
Standard Towel Price | $134

Small space-dwellers, rejoice! Ettitude’s towels are lush and soft, but not bulky or thick making them the best choice for folks who need to be smart with their storage. The unique waffle weave design not only adds a touch of elegance but also enhances absorbency and accelerates drying time. This texture provides gentle exfoliation, making the towels suitable for those with sensitive skin, while still maintaining a soft, plush feel. (I could almost envision these towels being repurposed as comfort blankets for little ones, and the hand towel is the perfect weight for a kitchen hand towel, too.)

While these towels are not technically “organic,” they are made from 100% organic bamboo lyocell, known as CleanBamboo®, which is all natural and sensitive skin-friendly. These towels are produced through a closed-loop process that recycles water up to 200 times, significantly reducing environmental impact compared to traditional cotton. I’ve got my eye on the hair towel for my long-haired husband who needs a gentle way to dry his thick hair.

You can even bundle your towel set with a bamboo bathrobe to save up to 20%!

6. Coyuchi

Best For | Sustainability & circularity initiatives
Materials | 100% GOTS Certified organic cotton
Sustainability | Upcycling program through Coyuchi for Life
Standard Towel Price | $48 – $68

I’ve had my eye on Coyuchi for a long time and am swooning over this stunning terra cotta organic towel — I never imagined I would love this color so much. This is a fabulous mid-weight ribbed towel that dries quickly without feeling too thin (or too overly fluffy). Their towels, including the 600 GSM Temescal Organic Towels, are made from long-staple Turkish cotton spun into lightweight yarns and woven into narrow channels for enhanced drying power. Unlike conventional towels treated with chemical softeners, Coyuchi’s towels are naturally soft, plush, and absorbent without feeling thick or heavy. The brand offers a variety of collections, such as the Air Weight®, Cloud Loom™, and Mediterranean, each designed to cater to different preferences in texture and weight

I am drawn to Coyuchi thanks to the range of styles and price points available — and its commitment to creating a circular lifecycle for your products which is great for heavy users. You can subscribe for your choice of bath towels at a low monthly rate, and receive new ones on a recurring basis. Coyuchi will then renew, upcycle, or recycle your gently used goods, as part of its commitment to sustainability.

You can select bundles of just towels, or select a variety of bathroom linens and save up to 10%.

7. Boll & Branch

Best For | Fluffiest organic cotton towel
Materials | 100% GOTS Certified long-staple organic cotton
Sustainability | No pesticides used, water-saving processes
Standard Towel Price | $39 – $49

Boll & Branch’s towels feel like vacation. There, I said it. If thick and fluffy is the name of your towel game, these are the ones for you. I tried two styles, the spa and the plush towels, and can say this — the plush towel’s fine terry loops make it velvety-soft right out of the box. These towels are free from harmful pesticides, GMOs, and toxins like formaldehyde, ensuring a safe and healthy experience for all. (The GOTS- and OEKO-TEX certifications give these towels that expert seal of approval.) I also love that the brand makes a huge impact through their give back initiatives that provide bedding essentials to underserved community members and hospitals.

The classic styling of Boll & Branch’s towels, alongside the fluffy terry loops, adds a touch of elegance to any bathroom! The plush would be my first choice, even though it’s slightly pricier! (Keep an eye out for sales to snag these babies for a deal). The stone color would look fab in a modern, minimalist home or apartment.

Boll & Branch’s bundles will save you around 5%, although I do really like that you can purchase most items a la carte (for when you have houseguests or if your family grows).

8. Quiet Town

Best For | Bold & colorful bath sheets
Materials | 100% GOTS certified organic cotton from Portugal
Sustainability | Ethical partners, natural materials
Standard Towel Price | $50

Quiet Town’s bath towels and sheets — like the boldly patterned Tam Bath Sheet and subtly striped Prism Bath Towel — bring together functionality, artistry, and ethical craftsmanship. Made in Portugal using 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton and finished with thoughtful details like double-sided prints, checkered trims, and hanging loops, these towels are as beautiful as they are sustainable. With a plush midweight feel at 520 GSM, they are ideal for daily use adding a funky vibe to your space!

The brand’s commitment to sustainability extends well beyond textiles. From compostable packaging to transparent sourcing and low-impact dyes, Quiet Town’s ethos is rooted in environmental responsibility and mindful design. Founders Lisa and Michael, now based in California, infuse their personal lifestyle shift into the heart of their business — choosing slower living, bright, nature-inspired palettes, and deeper storytelling in everything they create.

9. Parachute

Best For | Balance of plushness & quick-drying
Materials | 100% GOTS Certified organic cotton
Sustainability | OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, climate neutral shipping
Standard Towel Price | $49 – $59

Wrapping myself in Parachute’s towels felt like a trip down memory lane. I was reminded of when I was a kid showering at my grandparents lake cottage after a long day of swimming. These mid-weight ribbed towels are made using only the finest long-staple natural Turkish cotton from the Aegean region, and feature a subtle ribbed texture. Made using Spinsoft Technology, these OEKO-TEX certified towels are free of harmful dyes and gentle on both skin and the planet. With a mid-weight 450 GSM and machine-washable design, they strike a thoughtful balance between everyday function and luxury.

With the number of towel styles that Parachute offers (including waffle, classic Turkish, stripe, and organic plush to name a few), you can’t go wrong with picking up one or more of these functional and beautiful cotton towels. Oh, and how gorgeous are the mosaic towels?

You can order by piece, or save a few bucks when you purchase an 12-piece bundle (which is great for wedding registries and housewarmings).

10. The Citizenry

Best For | Sensitive skin
Materials | 100% GOTS Certified organic cotton from the Aegean region of Turkey
Sustainability | OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, Fair Trade certified
Standard Towel Price | $88 – $98

The Citizenry‘s bath towel and sheet collection effortlessly blends luxury, sustainability, and global craftsmanship. Their Organic Plush Towels, loomed in the Aegean region of Turkey, are crafted from 100% organic long-staple Turkish cotton, offering a sumptuous 720 GSM weight that ensures exceptional softness and absorbency. These towels are both GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified, reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility and chemical-free production. Available in serene hues, we’re loving the spa-like vibe of these towels, helping us easily elevate our daily rituals!

For those seeking a lighter, more textured option, the Aegean Cotton Towels feature a unique blend of cotton and linen, combining a breathable waffle weave exterior with a plush terry cloth interior. At 380 GSM, they offer quick-drying capabilities without compromising on softness. The subtle eyelash fringe detailing adds an artisanal touch, while the OEKO-TEX certification ensures they are free from harmful substances. Each towel is produced in a fair trade environment, supporting skilled artisans and sustainable practices. Sets are available if you’re looking to save some coin!

Materials

The foundation of any great towel is its material, and for us, organic cotton is the gold standard. We look for GOTS-certified organic cotton because it’s grown without toxic pesticides and processed without harmful chemicals, making it better for your skin and the planet. Turkish and Egyptian cotton varieties are particularly prized for their long fibers, which create softer and more durable towels. For an even lower-impact option, some brands offer towels made from hemp or a blend of organic cotton and bamboo, which are both fast-growing, renewable resources. Regardless of the fiber, organic certification ensures the towel is safe for everyday use and responsibly produced.

Absorbency

Absorbency is non-negotiable in a good bath towel, and not all organic towels are created equal in this department. We look for towels that dry you off quickly without feeling soggy after one use. Typically, thicker loops and higher pile contribute to better water absorption, though weave type and fabric density also play a role. Some lightweight organic towels might feel great initially but underperform after a shower, so we always test towels after multiple washes to assess how well they hold up over time. The best ones balance absorbency with breathability so they don’t take forever to dry after use.

Weight

A towel’s weight is measured in GSM (grams per square meter), and this often determines how plush or lightweight it feels. Our editors generally recommend a midweight towel (500–700 GSM) for everyday use, offering a cozy balance between softness, absorbency, and ease of care. Heavier towels (700+ GSM) feel more luxurious but can take longer to dry, while lighter towels (under 500 GSM) are great for travel or humid climates where fast drying is key. We consider weight carefully depending on the intended use — luxury spa vibe, family bathroom, or gym bag essential.

Texture

Texture plays a big role in both the function and feel of a towel, and choosing the right one comes down to your personal preferences for softness, absorbency, and style. Plush towels, usually made from thick terry cloth with dense loops, feel soft and luxurious on the skin — perfect if you’re looking for that cozy, spa-like vibe. These are typically more absorbent, but they can take longer to dry and be a bit bulky in small storage spaces. Waffle towels, on the other hand, have a honeycomb weave that’s light, airy, and fast-drying. They’re ideal for warmer or more humid climates and offer a minimalist aesthetic while gently exfoliating the skin.

But plush and waffle aren’t the only options. Ribbed towels are another texture we’ve come to appreciate — they feature raised, striped lines of fabric that offer a massaging feel and excellent breathability. Flat-weave towels are ultra-lightweight, quick-drying, and fold up small, making them great for travel, the gym, or people with limited storage. Though they’re thinner than traditional towels, they become softer and more absorbent over time. There are also velour towels, which are sheared on one side to give a smooth, almost velvet-like finish. While they feel incredibly soft, velour towels are usually less absorbent than looped styles, so we typically recommend them for lounging or decorative use rather than daily drying.

We test towels across these textures to see how they perform after multiple washes, how well they absorb moisture, and how they fit different lifestyles — from cozy homebodies to frequent travellers.

Size

Bath towels come in a range of sizes, and we always check dimensions to make sure they’ll actually suit your needs. A standard bath towel measures around 27″ x 52″, which works for most people, but for added coverage and comfort, many brands offer bath sheets — oversized versions typically measuring 35″ x 60″ or more. If you like to fully wrap yourself in a towel or want something more generous for lounging post-shower, bath sheets are the way to go. We also take note of matching sets that include hand towels and washcloths, for a coordinated and complete bathroom setup.

What’s the difference between bath sheets and bath towels?

Bath towels and bath sheets serve the same basic purpose— drying you off after a bath or shower—but the main difference comes down to size and feel. A standard bath towel usually measures around 27″ x 52″, which is big enough to get the job done but may feel a bit skimpy if you like to wrap up completely. Bath sheets, on the other hand, are much larger — typically around 35″ x 60″ or more — offering way more coverage and a spa-like experience. They’re great if you want to fully cocoon yourself in your towel, especially if you’re taller or just prefer extra room to lounge post-shower. Because of their size, bath sheets can feel more indulgent and are perfect for relaxing mornings or self-care evenings, while bath towels are more compact and practical for everyday use or smaller bathrooms. In short: bath towels are functional and space-saving, while bath sheets offer that oversized, wrap-yourself-up-in-luxury vibe.

Bath sheets also tend to be more absorbent due to their larger surface area, making them ideal for those who prefer to dry off quickly without needing multiple towels. However, their size means they require more storage space and may take longer to dry after use. Bath towels, being smaller, are easier to handle, quicker to launder, and more suitable for tasks like drying hair or for use by children. Ultimately, the choice between a bath towel and a bath sheet depends on personal preferences, bathroom space, and lifestyle needs.
