It can be overwhelming

Going off of my point of there being more junk and fast fashion, I get overwhelmed in secondhand shops. As a neurodivergent person, thrift shops can be a lot.

And maybe it’s getting older and my lack of patience, but sorting through all of the junk can make me feel anxious.

There is still a lot of overconsumption

While buying secondhand is definitley a more sustainable choice when compared to buying new, I think the increasing trendiness of thrift shopping still encourages overconsumption.

Some people continue to buy more because it is secondhand and a “more sustianable way of shopping.”

But I think the most sustainable option is to pause and ask ourselves if we really need an item before buying it.

Other Ways to Shop Secondhand

Buying secondhand items can be a great way to practice underconsumption, but finding the best way to go about that is different for each individual person.

While I don’t love shopping secondhand in person, I have been known to look online. I mainly use Poshmark.

And I’ve purchased secondhand items from neighbors! But going to the physical thrift store isn’t for me!
